BuildingBeautiful in the Kennedy Center’s 2018 Page to Stage Festival

The idea of justice quickly changes meaning when a grieving mother attends the press conference following her son’s tragic death. BuildingBeautiful is a short play written and directed by Khadijah Z. Ali-Coleman and performed by Liberated Muse Arts Group during a staged reading on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 8pm at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC on the Millenium Stage. The staged reading will be performed by: Colie Aziza, Yvonne Patrezsky, Anonamas, Lyn Artope, Kelly Canavan, Jamia Ferrell, Susan O’Hara, William Honablew III, Timothy Honablew, Xavier Halstead and Lori Madison.

The play BuildingBeautiful will be featured in the Kennedy Center’s 17th annual Page to Stage festival, a free three-day celebration of local theater featuring more than 60 companies from the D.C. metropolitan area. Theaters and artists in Page-to-Stage present open rehearsals, concert readings, and workshops of new plays that are often still in the development phase. Audience members may choose to engage in the creation through participatory activities or partake in post-presentation discussions with the artists, helping to shape future productions of the playwrights’ works. This year, Page-to-Stage embraces the Center’s season-long exploration of The Human Journey by tackling subjects such as migration, identity, and discovery.

The play BuildingBeautiful will be followed by a talk-back discussion where audience members can ask the actors and playwright questions about the play and their process. Seating is first come, first served.
