I’ve been writing poems since I was 8. Some of my poems have been published in books, on websites, in pamphlets and the like, but, many of them have been shared with my friends, commissioned by organizations and performed. Here are some of my favorites:

A Hurricane Dances

outside within

I Patiently Await

cinderella revisited

seeds of the middle passage (pt 2)

ode to Jamia &her wicked sense of self

wee women

In 2014, Black poets around the world used the hashtag #BlackPoetsSpeakOut to publish online themselves reading work addressing the heinous acts of police brutality in the US that occurs without consequence. My contributions to this movement that was started by Cave Canem fellows were two poems, “That Thing” and “Message to Oppression“. The words to the second poem are here.
