Help Me Reach 1K in Five (5) Days

My production IN HER WORDS begins its third touring season in March. This is the second year we are running a funding campaign to pay for things essential to the tour– from printing costs to travel stipends for the cast.

I conceived the idea for the production in 2011 after hearing an archived interview on Pacifica radio with the legendary Lena Horne. I was inspired to present a look at some of our extraordinary Black women creatives and how their lives and work impacted (and were impacted by) social justice movements in the United States.

This year, I portray Lena Horne in addition to directing and producing the production. I am excited to refreshen my acting chops, as I have spent the past several years behind-the-scenes directing and producing. My cast this year is top-notch– including returning cast members Colie Williams who portrays Billie Holiday, Lyn Artope as Lucille Clifton and Anisha Newbill as Nina Simone. New cast members include Dior Ashley Brown as Zora Neale Hurston (pictured below), Shauntice D. Wyatt as Cass and Kareema Wambuii as the newest story addition– Katherine Dunham. This cast is phenomenal. You can support us by making a contribution to our campaign here. Any dollar amount is appreciated. Certain dollar amounts earn you a perk. Check it out.

DIOR AS ZORA

We currently have reached 77% of our goal but you can help us reach 100% with your contribution today! Thanks for your support.
