Story Quilting: Using Imagery & Descriptive Word Play to Develop Literature Appreciation

The “Story Quilting…” workshop engages workshop participants in an activity that will illustrate how arts-based activities can develop key language and literacy skills in emerging readers. Workshop participants will learn how to link books of different reading levels to relevant arts activities while also learning strategies to use arts activities as pathways to discussion to inquiry. Khadijah created the Story Quilting technique in 2008 and began using it with her pre-school daughter as a tool to aid her emerging reading skills. She has since used the Story Quilt in her work with young learners as well as relunctant readers of all-ages.

Khadijah has facilitated this workshop in the Mosaic Literary Conference in NY and for DC educators. To schedule this workshop, contact Khadijah at LiberatedMuseProductions@gmail.com
